Hi I was having the same issue with my Seagate Central 2TB Network drive. The only difference was I'm using Windows 10 Pro. I was able to solve my problem by running the Seagate Discovery Tool for Windows which is available from the Seagate site. Aug 06, 2015  Windows 10 won't connect to Seagate Central network drive private folders. I have installed the Seagate Discovery Tool, which finds the drive immediately - still cannot connect via explorer.Seagate Dashboard can connect fine. I am downloading Seagate File Recovery Software because -- Please Select -- I have lost files and would like to retrieve them I am browsing for a data recovery solution I want to have the software available on my computer for future use.

I have a Seagate 5tb drive connected via usb to my router
I can access the drive and read/write files
I see the drive in my computer / network
the issue is I installed Seagate dashboard and tried running the discovery tool - never finds the drive
I have searched the internet and Seagate and have not found anything that helped.
I am trying to install/run backup plus
does the drive have to be attached directly to my pc to get the discovery tool to detect the drive so I can install the backup plus software
and if that is so would I be able to run a backup after plugging it back into the router

I purchased the 4TB model and set up is fairly simple and fast. It has plenty of room to back up my 5 computers as I really don't have lots of video files. The most major problem with it is the security of this device. I have a file that is password protected however someone was able to hack into it and see my confidential files. My advice is to use this only if you are going to save non critical information on it such as family photos or video. I would not save ANY confidential info on this drive. The other option is to get a hardware firewall and connect the drive directly to it. Nothing is 100% secure but at least your data would be protected by a firewall. I have to say that down load speeds are ok on this device, not what I would call fast but it is fast enough to down load pics and movies to a tablet. I took a star away because of the security issue, your files should be safe on this drive but they really are not. I can't recommend this unit as it comes from China and it has a backdoor access programmed into it. I contacted Seagate and they would not allow me to return or exchange it, basically I am stuck with a junk unit that I can't use because of security breech. Update, Seagate is working with me on a solution to my problem, so at this point in time I can say they will back their products and try to fix things. I have a newer personal cloud and so far so good.
